I attended the Frozen For You launch event and received a voucher to try these meals.
I really dislike cooking. Partly because my facilities to do so is pretty limited. Partly because I would rather not spend the money on making food and then cleaning everything up afterwards again. Yes, I’m lazy. Pasta is a staple – store bought because, see previous sentence.
And let’s be honest, a certain retailer’s ready-made dishes are all starting to taste the same, not to mention them being rather pricey. So I’m quite excited to try the new frozen food range by catering company By Word of Mouth. It’s called Frozen For You.
Nature’s pause button
Frozen fresh as soon as they’re assembled, the meals in the Frozen For You range don’t require added preservatives to keep the nutrients and quality of the dish. This means you can stock up for the week, or month (if your freezer allows – mine doesn’t 🙁 ).
The variety of dishes don’t limit you to weekday home-cooked meals though. You can cater an entire event from these meals. To prove it, the dishes served at the launch event, were all from this range. I can definitely recommend the baked cauliflower gratin, the mushroom sauce and minted peas (and I’m not a fan of peas), the mac n cheese (butternut and crispy pancetta), and the tomato soup, which has just the right amount of bite. You can view the full menu with serving sizes and prices here.
How to order
For now, Jo’burg has exclusive access to these dishes. You can pop in at the Frozen For Your store in Dainfern Square, Fourways, or order online – only certain areas qualify for delivery. Fear not, plans are in the works to expand to Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban in the near future.
I placed an order online on Sunday, and expect delivery on Wednesday. Illovo is fortunately an area deliveries are made to (delivery fee is R40, with free delivery for orders over R2 000).
I’ll be posting some photos and comments on the SITC social media platforms after delivery, so keep an eye on those. And let me know if you’d order from Frozen For You, or if you have ordered, what you think.
