It’s Friday! And the only thing better than a Friday, is Isabella’s Cake-Tasting Fridays, which take place on the first Friday of every month, from 15:00 until closing time (around 17:00 at most branches). Loving cake as much as I do, I could not resist checking this out in May. I visited the Waterkloof branch and got a lovely seat under a tree in the great Pretoria weather, with a perfect view of the cake table. Service was great, and the managers made time to chat with everyone and ensure all was happy.

For R55 you get to each as much cake as you like! But let me put that in context for you: eight cakes are offered in a buffet-style, each one cut into tasting blocks. So round one you should ideally dish up one of each, and savour every mouthful. Ensure you have something to drink because it is thirsty work! Once you’ve identified your favourites, return to the back of the line and grab those!

• Go hungry
• Indulge, but don’t be greedy – only dish up what you will really be able to eat
• Take your time; pace yourself 😉
