Tapiana – taking tapas to the next level

Tapiana by Escondido recently invited me for dinner.

Behind boisterous The Brazen Head in Sandton, a fabulous new tapas spot has taken root. Tapiana, brought to you by the lovely people from Escondido in Illovo, is the new favourite hot spot for the young and fabulous. And us normal folk too.

I’ve never been to Escondido (a crying shame, since I work just up the road from The Post Office Centre), so I can’t really draw a comparison. I do believe that Tapiana is popular in its own right. The food. The cocktails. I don’t have enough adjectives to describe just how wonderful everything is.

The menus are written in chalk on blackboards, since the lineup is changed every week. Choose from bowls, planks, tapas and bites, and dessert. Keep an eye out for the cocktail specials – also updated weekly – the custom G&Ts are amazing.

That, my friends, is a peach and orange G&T ? ? finally getting a taste of @cruxlandgin Cc @foodstuff *cheers*

My experience

The service at Tapiana is outstanding. Knowledge kindly offered to surprise me with a range of tapas, to spare me the agony of having to choose, and his choices were spot-on.

It’s difficult to choose my favourite savoury dish from the ones that were served. Probably the arancini (I mean who would complain about deep-fried cheesy carbs?).

The pumpkin fritters dusted with cinnamon sugar were delish!

To drink I enjoyed a peach-and-orange G&T followed by a pepper and basil Pimms cup – both so good.

With so many dishes left to try, and being positioned between my office and home, I’m sure I’ll be popping around again soon.
