Recently I had the pleasure of expanding my wine experience. While wine isn’t my first choice of drink, I do enjoy tastings and pairings.
Tantalising our taste buds on this occasion, Franschhoek Cellars teamed up with the Radisson Blu Gautrain to pair three wines with various dishes, the former living up to their mantra of celebrating fine wine, food and friendship (since 1945). Isabelle from Franschhoek Cellars took us on an imaginary tour of the cellars, noting the childcare facilities and that as a wedding venue it can cater for up to 300 guests, but shared her extensive wine knowledge as we worked our way from the Statue de Femme Sauvignon Blanc, through the La Cotte Mill Chenin Blanc which seems to have been a favourite among the guests, and finally ending with the Churchyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
Each of these wines were paired with mouthwatering bites created by the Radisson Blu Gautrain’s kitchen – juicy prawns, succulent chicken, bacon-wrapped beef done to perfection.
From my various wine journeys to date, I think it’s safe to say that when it comes to wine I prefer white varieties.
So next time you find yourself in the Winelands, be sure to add Franschhoek Cellars to your itinerary.
