Slipper Day, Reach For A Dream’s biggest fundraiser, returns on 31 May 2024, promising a day filled with warmth, generosity, and fun – all in support of children with life-threatening illnesses.
This year, Reach For A Dream and their partners bring you the chance to get a fabulous prize each week. To enter, simply buy a Slipper Day sticker from one of their retail partners, scan the QR code on the sticker and follow the prompts! Weekly winners will be announced on Fridays on their social media pages.
Step Into My Slippers
Since its inauguration in 2011, Slipper Day has become a nationwide movement where everyone band together to make dreams come true for children with critical diseases like cancer, renal failure, and heart conditions.
This year’s theme, “Step into My Slippers,” focuses on empathy, fun, and stepping into the shoes (or rather, slippers) of these brave children. This simple act demonstrates solidarity and support for these children, who often spend their days in slippers due to their health conditions.
From their inception in 1988, Reach For A Dream has turned more than 27,670 dreams into reality. These dreams, ranging from meeting personal heroes to experiencing new things for the first time, provide the children with a temporary escape from their illness and a much-needed distraction from often painful medical treatments. Most importantly, fulfilled dreams inspire hope, giving these children a reason to believe that tomorrow is worth fighting for.
Buy Your Slipper Day Stickers
Stickers cost R20 each, and can be purchased from Wimpy, Pick n Pay, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, Dis-Chem Baby City, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Krispy Kreme, and Hushpuppies.co.za. Alternatively, bulk order them from the Reach For A Dream website. This year, Zapper has come on board to make it as easy as possible for people to pay for their virtual Slipper Day stickers.
You can also buy a pair of funky slippers or socks online through the Reach For A Dream website.
Remember to wear your sticker and slippers to Wimpy on 31 May to claim your FREE Famous Coffee (or hot chocolate for children under 12).
Get Creative And Spread The Word
Play into this year’s theme by creating some fun content for your social pages. Some ideas suggested by Reach For A Dream include:
- Make a video where you transition form your normal, everyday shoes to your slippers.
- Talk about why you support Reach For A Dream and Slipper Day.
- Encourage your fans and followers to buy a sticker, step into their slippers, and make dreams come true.
- Do something unexpected like yoga, playing tennis, etc., wearing your slippers or pair them with something unusual like a Speedo or evening gown.
