There’s nothing quite like starting the day with a little good news, especially when that good news comes with an award attached.

Syllable in the City has been awarded Best Lifestyle Blog 2026 – Johannesburg as part of MEA Markets Magazine’s 2026 African Excellence Awards, and I’m more than a little excited about it.

Now in its ninth consecutive year, the African Excellence Awards celebrate businesses, organisations, entrepreneurs, and creatives making an impact across the continent. From renewable energy and infrastructure to education, events, professional services, and, yes, lifestyle content, the awards shine a spotlight on people and brands doing brilliant things in their respective fields.

Awards Coordinator Melissa Bramall congratulated this year’s winners, highlighting the diverse organisations that continue to reshape Africa’s business landscape and influence industries further afield.

And somewhere among all those innovators and industry leaders is a certain Johannesburg lifestyle blog you know rather well.

Being named Best Lifestyle Blog 2026 – Johannesburg is particularly special for Syllable in the City because Johannesburg has always been at the heart of what I do.

Jozi is loud, colourful, complicated, delicious, creative, occasionally chaotic, and constantly changing. In other words, there is never a shortage of things to talk about.

From discovering restaurants, hotels, experiences, and travel escapes to exploring technology, entertainment, events, food, and those little lifestyle discoveries worth sharing, Syllable in the City has always been about finding interesting stories and telling them in an approachable way.

A rather lovely milestone

Awards are wonderful, but what makes this one especially meaningful is what it represents.

Every article begins with something I think readers might genuinely want to know about, whether that’s a new restaurant opening, a clever piece of technology, a weekend escape, an exciting local experience, or something completely unexpected that lands in my inbox.

Being recognised by MEA Markets Magazine alongside businesses and organisations from across Africa is a fantastic reminder that independent digital publishing has a place in that bigger picture too.

It also gives me an excellent excuse to use the phrase award-winning Johannesburg lifestyle blog, which, frankly, I’m going to enjoy for a while.
